PAPER CRANE OF HOPE FOUNDER
Sam Ruckle, Australian Counsellor
You might be wondering if I’m the right therapist for you.
Look, I get it.
When I sought counselling in the past, it was crucial for me to feel completely comfortable and heard in the therapeutic space.
Connection is incredibly important.
Did you know that over 80% of effective counselling, is based on the relationship you have with your therapist?
Yep, it’s true.
So… let’s get into the nitty gritty of it, shall we?
Before I share my qualifications and experience, let me introduce myself.
I’m Sam- an Australian Mum of two young girls and a household with two delightful, “therapy cats”. Rest assured, you will meet them one day, as they love to show off during a counselling session.
There’s nothing that I love more than a good
ache-in-your-belly laugh.
During our sessions, don’t be surprised if we share heartfelt laughter and crack jokes with tears in our eyes.
Healing doesn’t always need to be serious and stern; after all, we are humans- messy, glorious and beautiful beings on our own unique journey.
My hobbies outside of the therapy room are wide and varied.
I train in Muay Thai Boxing, attend a Toastmasters public speaking club and try to swim in the ocean as much as possible.
But more than anything, I take great pleasure in empowering individuals, like yourself, and providing counselling services that bring hope and healing.
My purpose is to hold space for you as you embark on your personal healing journey, fostering self-acceptance and love for who you truly are.
I use a variety of counselling techniques, with a leaning towards Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness and Spirituality (if that resonates).
Of course, I love to tailor base everything I do- based on you and your individual needs.
I’ve been in the “business” of helping people since 2003, straight out of high school when I studied a Bachelor of Social Science Youth Work (RMIT).
This began an amazing career where I have worked in many settings (state and local governments, and non-for-profits)- homeless crisis centres, child protection residential units, youth justice, youth homeless shelters, community development projects and foster care.
After I had my first baby, I felt the pull to continue my studies with a Diploma of Counselling (AIPC) and register with the Australian Counselling Association.
Let’s get professional.

This has been my greatest joy and pleasure- I truly feel that I am walking in my purpose.
Continuous professional development is important to me- I have had ongoing training in trauma informed work, Internal Family Systems, attachment theory, conflict resolution skills, mindfulness practice, Neurodiversity Affirming Therapy and more. I am constantly learning and adding knowledge and skills to the work that I do.
With over 2.11k subscribers on You Tube and 6000 followers on Instagram I love sharing my knowledge in a fun and educational way. I’m proud to be the receiver of the GHP Mental Health Awards 2024 for the Most Empowering Online Counsellor 2024 (Australia).
Sometimes it takes booking that “first appointment” to really see if therapy is right for you.
